Jolene & Josh – Groveland Fairways Wedding
Jolene & Josh were such a sweet couple and I’m happy I was able to capture their day! They had both their ceremony and reception at Groveland Fairways in (you guessed it) Groveland, Massachusetts. Their wedding was special to me because it was the first time I had to attempt to learn sign language for a client—as both of Jolene’s parent’s are deaf (I got the basics down, but mostly they laughed and shrugged off my failed attempts throughout the day). It was so nice to see that they hired interpreters for the ceremony and reception—so the deaf guests didn’t miss any of the vows or jokes during the speeches (and we all got to “hear” Jolene’s father’s speech).
I’m definitely signing myself up for an ASL class—because after this wedding, I know it’s a valuable skill to have. Not being able to fully communicate with the parents of the bride was tough, but they were so easy going and fun, and knew that I was trying! But, more importantly, I think knowing sign language would be useful in every day life (over .38% of the US’s population are deaf).
Jolene and Josh both got ready at Groveland, with their adorable dog standing in as a groomsman. And then it was time for the first look!
After the first look we jumped right into family and wedding party portraits, and got a few of Jolene & Josh with their dog since he was going to be leaving right after the ceremony.
The ceremony spot at Groveland is beautiful—and their vows were just as sweet as they are.
After the ceremony we did a few more portraits of just Jolene and Josh—they sun was really harsh at this time so we snuck around the side of Groveland’s main building, where there is a small utility road lined with trees, which was actually the perfect spot for these romantic photos!!
The reception hall was set up beautifully, and the couple had made all of their own centerpieces and other decorations.
The reception kicked off with introductions and the first dance, and then went right into parent dances before dinner was served and the dance floor was opened.
And, of course, we had to take a few photos outside with the fireplace once it got dark—we couldn’t have said goodnight to Jolene & Josh without doing that!!
